Interface tour
Collapy is laid out like a code editor. A top bar sits across the top, panels sit on the left, right and bottom, your open requests sit in tabs in the middle, and a status bar runs along the bottom. This page explains each part and how to rearrange it.
Top bar
From left to right:
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| COLLAPY logo | The app name. |
| Organization indicator | Shows the current organization. Click it for Organization overview (opens the organization's account page) and Switch organization. That submenu lists your organizations and ends with Create organization. |
| Workspace indicator | Shows the current workspace (or Select Workspace if none is open). Click it to switch to another workspace in this organization, or choose Manage Workspaces. |
| Environment indicator | Shows the selected environment (or Environment if none is selected). Click it to switch environments or choose Create environment. |
| Search | Opens global search (Ctrl+K). |
| Settings | Opens Account → Appearance. |
| Your avatar | Opens the user menu (see below). |
User menu
Click your avatar to open it:
- Your name and email: opens Account → My Profile.
- APPEARANCE: switch between Light, Dark and Auto (follows your system).
- UI SCALE: a slider that makes the whole interface bigger or smaller. Reset to 100% appears when you've changed it.
- Settings: opens Account → Appearance.
- Logout: signs you out after you confirm.
Global search
Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on macOS) or click the search icon. Type to search the collections, requests and environments in the current workspace. Use the FILTER BY: chips (Collection, Request, Environment) to narrow the results. Use the arrow keys to move through them, Enter to open one and Esc to close.
Panels
Panels hold the tools around your tabs. Each one has an icon on a narrow rail at the edge of the window. Click an icon to show or hide its panel.
The left rail lists panels placed on the left at the top, and panels placed at the bottom lower down. The right rail lists panels placed on the right.
| Panel | What it shows | Default position |
|---|---|---|
| EXPLORER | The collections and requests in the workspace. The header has buttons to search, add a collection or request, and import. | Left, shown |
| PINNED | Requests and collections you've pinned for quick access. | Left, hidden |
| TESTS | Test scenarios for the workspace. | Left, hidden |
| ENVIRONMENTS | The workspace's environments. | Right, shown |
| REQUEST VARIABLES | The {{variables}} the active request uses and their values. You can override a value for this request only. | Right, shown |
| EXECUTIONS | Recent sends in the workspace, from you and your teammates. Toggle between showing everyone's and only yours. | Right, shown |
| RESPONSE | The response to the request in the active tab. Opens automatically when you send a request. | Bottom, shown |
Arrange panels
Each panel header has a Panel options menu (⋮):
| Group | Options |
|---|---|
| Display | Dock shows the panel inside its area. Float shows it as an overlay that closes when you click elsewhere. Hide removes it until you click its rail icon again. |
| Position | Move to Left, Move to Right, Move to Bottom. |
| Order | Move Up / Move Down (or Move Left / Move Right in the bottom area) to change the order of panels that share an area. |
To resize, drag the edge of a panel area, or the divider between two panels in the same area.
Collapy remembers your panel layout on this device and browser. The same layout is used in every workspace.
Tabs
Every request, collection, environment or scenario you open gets its own tab. Collapy remembers your open tabs for each workspace on this device.
New tabs
Click + (New tab) in the tab bar to open one of these:
- New Request
- New Environment
- New Collection
- New Scenario
- Show Dashboard / Hide Dashboard
Horizontal or vertical tabs
Tabs run across the top of the editor by default. To list them in a column instead, open the tab switcher (the ⌄ button at the end of the tab bar, or Ctrl+Shift+A) and choose Vertical under Layout. The tabs then appear in a TABS sidebar with its own search, + and More menu, where you can switch back to Horizontal.
Tab switcher and recently closed tabs
The tab switcher lists your open tabs with a Search tabs field. Below them, Recently closed lists tabs you've closed. Click one to reopen it, or press Ctrl+Shift+T to reopen the most recent.
Tab menu
Right-click a tab for these options:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Close | Closes the tab. Asks first if it has unsaved changes. |
| Force Close | Closes the tab without asking. |
| Close Others | Closes every other tab. |
| Close to the Left / Close to the Right | Closes the tabs on that side. |
| Add to New Group | Starts a tab group with this tab. |
| Move to group name | Moves the tab into an existing group. |
| Remove from Group | Takes the tab out of its group. |
Tab groups
Groups keep related tabs together under a colored label.
- Right-click a tab and choose Add to New Group.
- In New Tab Group, enter a Group name and pick a Color.
- Click OK.
Right-click the group label to Edit Group, Ungroup (keeps the tabs open) or Close Group.
Footer
The status bar at the bottom of a workspace shows:
| Item | Meaning |
|---|---|
| ONLINE / OFFLINE | Whether live updates from your teammates are connected. |
| Breadcrumb | Where the active tab lives, for example Organization › Workspace › Collection › Request. Click a collection or request in it to jump to another item at the same level. |
| All saved / n unsaved | How many open tabs have unsaved changes. |
| Avatars | The members of this workspace. Hover to see their names. |
Appearance settings
Open Account → Appearance (or click Settings in the top bar). The account pages will move to collapy.com later. For now they're inside the app.
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Theme | System Default, Light Mode or Dark Mode. |
| UI Scale | From 75% to 150%. Click Reset to 100% to go back to the default. |
Both settings apply only to this device and browser. They're the same settings as in the user menu.
On a phone or narrow window
When the window is narrower than 600 pixels, Collapy switches to a compact layout:
- A bottom navigation bar with Workspace and Account.
- A menu button (Open panels) at the left of the top bar, which opens the panels in a drawer.
- No footer.
